I thought I wanted to be a sports writer. I took a journalism class in 10th grade and got assigned to cover the JV basketball game. "This is it. This is my shot."
The next day after school, I headed to the library and a took a seat behind a buzzing, see-thru Mac. I typed up the story. I felt proud. This is what I want to do for a living. I knew it.
I got a C on the article.
My stomach slipped. I asked my teacher about it, and he told me that I needed to get to the stats more quickly. The numbers. The facts. My response: “I want to write something more creative.” His counter: “Have you thought about copywriting, in advertising?”
The rest is history.
